C2ES Statement On President Trump’s Address to Joint Session of Congress

Statement of Nathaniel Keohane
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions

March 4, 2025

In response to President Trump’s address to the joint session of Congress:

“The President has made energy a centerpiece of his economic agenda. And a vision of American energy abundance – of powering a prosperous economy with affordable, reliable, secure, and clean sources of energy – is one that Americans share regardless of what their politics are or where they live. But true leadership looks forward, not back. It seeks to innovate and grow. America already produces more oil and gas than ever before. We have the opportunity to lead the world in the next generation of technologies as well: in advanced nuclear, carbon capture, geothermal, and battery storage, among other clean energy technologies. And as global demand for these technologies grows, Americans can lead the world in manufacturing and exporting them around the world.

“The engine for realizing this vision is the historic investment in clean energy enacted in 2022—responsible for $600 billion, and counting, that is supporting factories and jobs in red and blue states and districts around the country. Without the clean energy tax credits as well as the grants already made to companies, we risk falling behind the global race for clean energy. Pulling the rug out now—just when American companies are poised to sprint ahead—would be a short-sighted and self-inflicted wound that cedes economic opportunity and global leadership to China and others.

“Businesses and working Americans  are waking up to the risk of losing the massive investments made possible by the clean energy tax credits. C2ES has been hearing from companies large  and small, as well as communities across the country about how critical these investments have already proven to be for local economies – and the jobs and prosperity that they can create. Policymakers in Washington should listen to them as well.”
