Statement of Bob Perciasepe
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions
November 23, 2018
On the release of the National Climate Assessment:
“This latest National Climate Assessment presents the most comprehensive picture yet of the costly impacts of climate change on U.S. communities and our economy. With its analysis of risks to key resources and sectors, and the interactions among them, the report provides a critical planning tool for public and private sector efforts to strengthen resilience to extreme weather, rising sea level, and other climate impacts.
“By documenting these tangible risks to America’s safety and prosperity – and, especially, to our most vulnerable populations – the report also underscores the absolute necessity of decarbonizing the U.S. economy. We must dramatically step up these efforts using all tools at hand – including improved energy efficiency, electric vehicles, and renewables, as well as carbon capture and nuclear.
“C2ES provides resources and guidance to help businesses, cities, and states reduce emissions and strengthen resilience to climate change. Our new planning guides offer strategies for coping with increasing heat, drought, power outages, flooding, and wildfires. The National Climate Assessment will be an invaluable resource as we continue working with communities, businesses leaders, and other stakeholders to help them manage the growing impacts of a warming climate.”
