Statement of Bob Perciasepe
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions
February 9, 2018
On the passage of the bipartisan budget deal:
Congress today took a responsible step that keeps the federal government working and preserves critical technology incentives to take full advantage of the clean energy economy. This gesture of bipartisanship is sure to prove an opportune step for America’s energy future.
By ensuring the deal includes tax incentives for low-carbon technologies, it invests in future opportunities that protect and create American jobs. Extensions for tax credits for zero-carbon, nuclear energy production and the section 45Q tax credit for carbon capture use and storage technologies will promote reduced carbon emission energy production. And tax incentives for energy efficiency, small renewable energy projects, combined heat and power projects, fuel cells, biofuels, and certain electric vehicles will help grow investments in these renewable and clean energy technologies.
American innovation in advanced low-carbon technologies can help us decarbonize the economy over the long-term and will be critically necessary to the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050.
