The world urgently needs to scale up climate action, and COP28 presents a crucial opportunity to accelerate international climate ambition and implementation. 2023 has seen unprecedented climate events, from record-breaking extreme heat to catastrophic floods, fires, and droughts. According to this year’s IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, the international community is off track to meet its goal of limiting global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius. COP28 could, however, put the international community back on a path toward a sustainable future.
