Statement of Bob Perciasepe
President, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions
November 4, 2019
On U.S. notification of withdrawal from the Paris Agreement:
“Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement is a reckless act. U.S. leadership helped establish this landmark agreement, which provides our best means of holding countries accountable in the effort against climate change. Walking away from Paris is an abdication of U.S. leadership. It threatens the interests of all Americans today and in the future.
“Leading U.S. companies support the agreement as a sensible framework that can reduce climate risks and create new economic opportunities by promoting an effective and balanced global climate effort. Despite the President’s decision to withdraw, a growing number of companies are setting strong emission reduction goals, ramping up their investments in climate solutions, and supporting effective climate policies.
“We are confident that the United States will in time rejoin the Paris Agreement and that, in the interim, companies, states, cities, and citizens will continue strengthening U.S. action against climate change.”
